Mashing is the steeping process which hydrates the malted barley using hot water. This process is critical because it activates the malt enzyme, thereby converting the starches into fermentable sugar. The conversion of starch to sugar is carried out by the beta-glucanase and proteolytic enzymes.

During the mashing process, the starches become 90% soluble. This is done by heating up the grains in the liquid up to 130 degrees Fahrenheit. The grains should be milled to ensure that the starches are easily released into the liquid. The mashing process is carried out in a specialized brewing vessel called a mash tun. The Mash King Tun is a heavy-duty mash tun that can hold 11.7 gallons or 43 liters of liquid in one batch. Moreover, it still has more room to hold up to a 17% volume increase once the grain bill is mixed with the liquor or water.

This particular mash tun comes with the necessary accessories such as the stainless steel ball valve and a heat-resistant silicone gasket to prevent leaks. It also features the collapsible handles for easy storage even in tight places. The package comes with a bazooka kit which is necessary to separate the grain from the wort. The bazooka screen prevents the grain from mixing with the wort during the boiling process. The bazooka screen is made from stainless steel mesh and can be easily installed at the bottom of the mash tun to automatically separate the grains when the wort is being drained through the spigot or ball valve.

The Mash King's inside dimensions are 19" x 13 1/4". With its outside dimensions(with lid) being 21 3/8" x 15 1/2".

Teflon tape not included. This product requires assembly.

Before installing the Bazooka Kit remove the Cooler Spigot on the Mash King to free up the installation hole.
